Meera Devi has been practicing the ancient art of Kantha embroidery for over 25 years, working from her home in the weaving village of Murshidabad. Trained by her mother and grandmother, she learned to layer old saris and bind them with the running stitch that defines Kantha — a word that means "rags" in Sanskrit, though the results are anything but.
